For the love of pencils 2: Code of conductI have a secret love: I have had this love since early childhood and im now ready to come out. Coloured pencils what is there not to love about them, I have them in mahogany boxes, small cabinets, small tins, large tins and pencil wraps.
So if you share my love of coloured pencils remember you are not alone.
The correct procedure when operating a coloured pencil:-
The first rule: Never under any circumstances refer to the above mentioned creative implement as a crayon.
The second rule: Never under any circumstances touch or finger another mans pencil. There have been occasions when a pencil has been removed from the tin and not been but back in the designated slot , " you know who you are".
Third rule: There is a special place in hell for those of you who DROP pencils, o the horror.
Forth rule: A brand new tin of pencils is a thing of beauty, you must spend time just admiring the pencils in their lovely lines for at least 6 months before using them. By all means try gently running your

I thought it was about time that I did a big feature of some of the pencil works that I have collected lately. I got the push to actually do it by the lovely ~JAMsEye.

The Art & History of the PencilThe pencil is commonly known as a traditional art supply. But, as you can imagine, it took a long journey before the pencil got its final writing & drawing purpose.
Several centuries ago, somewhere between 1500 and 1565, a massive deposit of pure and solid graphite was found in England. Locals found this form of graphite useful for marking sheeps: the first graphite sticks were born.
In 1662, the Germans made a first attempt to manufacture graphite sticks from powdered graphite. This led to an active pencil industry developed throughout the 19th century.
The first pencil containing a wooden holder was said to be created by an Italian couple. It was designed for the purpose of marking their carpentry.
Two centuries later Nicolas-Jacques Conté, a French painter, invented the modern pencil after he got a request to create a pencil that did not rely on foreign imports, as France was unable to import graphite from Great Britain.
